An event staged by uncommon bedfellows will benefit the health of both the valleyÕs people and its natural resources Aug. 2, 3 and 4.
The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance and St. JohnÕs Medical Center Foundation have teamed up to present ÒShowcase of SurprisesÓ (a.k.a. ÒAddieÕs Trunk ShowÓ), where 19 artisans and importers will sell items ranging from handknit sweaters to childrenÕs clothes. The two organizations will share 15 percent of all sales made.
The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance, the communityÕs oldest and largest local non-profit environmental group, is dedicated to responsible land stewardship in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to ensure that human activities are in harmony with the areaÕs irreplaceable wildlife, scenic and other natural recourses.
St. John's Medical Center Foundation is dedicated to healthcare excellence in Jackson, Wy. St. JohnÕs Medical Center is a non-profit, community-owned hospital that provides quality healthcare to the residents of Teton County, our surrounding communities and visitors from around the world.
ÒBuying at the Showcase is an easy way to cover the bases of whatÕs important to this valley,Ó said Beverly Lane, the Alliance outreach director. ÒPurchases will help protect our human resources as well as the scenery and wildlife we are lucky enough to enjoy every day.Ó
The Showcase will be set up in tents at Amy and Bomber BryanÕs property on Pioneer Lane north of the Stillman Ranch parking lot and will be open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, August 2 and 3, and until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 4. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase, provided by the Hard Drive CafŽ.
ÒThis fun event allows patrons to shop the wares of nationally-recognized vendors without leaving town,Ó said Becky Kimmel, Executive Director of the SJMC Foundation.
Prime mover of this event, as well as the interface between the two non-profit organizations, is Addie Donnan. She conceived of the Showcase 15 years ago, when she staged it in her own home for the benefit of the hospital foundation. The Donnans are founding members and active supporters of both the Alliance and the Foundation.
Last year was the first time she found another venue for it, which meant she and her husband Ted did not have to move out of their own home to make way for the vendors to set up shop. The Showcase primarily benefited the Alliance last year. This year Mrs. Donnan invited both groups to share the proceeds, creating one of the more unusual liaisons of not-for-profits. Volunteers from both organizations have worked for months on the show and will do the set-up, clean-up and staffing.
Items for sale cover a wide price range to fit most any budget. The sales booths will include fine new and recycled and costume jewelry, needlepoint, artificial flowers, Christmas decorations, leather clothes and bags, linens, a range of gifts and many other items.
